My Letter to the Editor was printed in the Friday, Feb. 26 edition of the SF Chronicle.

"Editor:

Regarding the proposed improvements to BART stations (the 19th St. Oakland station in particular): a passenger dropoff zone would vastly improve the usability of this station. Currently there is NO white zone for passenger dropoff / pickup anywhere near the station. There are only metered parking spaces and a few yellow zones (for commercial vehicles only). There are No Parking zones in abundance, however. Many of these are bus stops, though not all  are painted red. The fine for stopping (even momentarily) in one of these No Parking zones (red curb or not) is $260. This is not a situation that enables passengers to expeditiously use BART. City of Oakland Public Works Department: are you listening?"
